New Year Book Goals Planner

“The New Year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” -Melody Beattie

Want to start your New Year off on the right track? Here are 6 of my favorite books to help you get started on finding out what that means for you! From learning how to not sweat the small stuff to figuring out how to eliminate your “bottle necks”, these books are sure to have quality information for your new journey!

This one was recommended to me a million times and I kept putting it off for various reasons. Once I finally sat down and read this beautiful story, I was so upset with myself for not doing it sooner! This one follows a young shepherd boy who goes on a quest for a treasure that lies in wait for him at the Egyptian Pyramids due to a recurring dream he believes to be prophetic. Whats makes this story even more crazy is knowing that the author wrote it in just TWO WEEKS stating it was “already written on my soul.”

The Alchemist
The 5 Second Rule

I had already been following the progress of the 5 Second Rule and loved it, but it wasn’t until I read this book that I truly grasped what I needed to do. Mel helps you find a way to blast through procrastination, beat self-doubt & fear, and improve your life or work. I’ll even share her first lesson with you, “Good things come to people who act on their instincts.” Simple.. but effective. A good read for anyone who knows what they want to change but is having a hard time doing it or knowing how to do it.

The Japanese art of de-cluttering and organizing from Marie Kondo is probably one of the best things to ever happen to me, and I didn’t even think I had a problem with clutter! This international best seller will help you clear the clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home with detailed steps on how to determine which items in your house spark joy. (I highly recommend watching her TV Series for first hand accounts of how she works!) This book is a great read for anyone wanting to do a little ‘Spring cleaning’ in their home and life.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck

Want something on the raw and refreshing side of reads? Mark Manson delivers in his off-beat self-help guide, ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ which focuses on redefining a spoiled generation who for decades have been told that positive thinking is the ONLY key to a happy life. Well as Mark puts it, “F**k positivity. Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it.” Manson argues that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. This one is a refreshing slap for those who may need to rethink what’s truly worth their time and energy.

I hand picked all the books on this list, but this one is my personal favorite. It’s written in story form making it incredibly engaging and oftentimes you don’t even realize you’re reading one of the most important Business books ever published! Eli explains that the goal of an individual or an organization should not be defined in absolute terms. A good definition of a goal is one that sets us on a path of ongoing improvement. Then he explains how to do this. This is the first book I recommend to everyone, ESPECIALLY those in any type of leadership role.

The Goal
The 4-Hour Work Week

Last but certainly not least, I offer you “The 4-Hour Work Week” written by Tim Ferriss, author of four #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers. It explains what a lifestyle entrepreneur is, how to kill your job and design a life, the 80/20 rule and how it increases productivity, how to replace your dreams with goals, and so much more! Even if you don’t follow each method, there is so much to be taken from and applied to every-day life, work and relationships.

Weather you’re looking for new ways to stay organized & productive or you are looking for an all out change of lifestyle, these books each have a little something to offer. They are just a few of my many favorites but a great place to start on your journey to creating a better life for yourself.
